When two wrongs 'do' make a right!

Updated: Feb 2, 2021

We have all heard the phrase, "the key to success is failure"

Well when I started out with my career as an estate agent, I thought I would never get the hang of it, matching buyers with properties, tenants with landlords, negotiations and all the admin that goes with it. It sounds simple right? Trust me, theres an art to it!

One day my boss at the time said to me "Victoria, can you write a set of details please?' Well, although I could write I had never had to write about someone's home before, I didn't know the format or the flow I was meant to incorporate into the writing... but, I said yes of course.....arrrrgh!!! HELP!!

I began to write it and the first draft was soon ready, complete with inserted photos etc.. I presented it to my boss and sat back down. In no time at all, the brochure was thrown onto my desk, with the words, "This is sh**t" written straight across it! Omg, I was mortified, she just looked at me and said "do it again its all wrong"

So, I set to work again, produced draft two, I was so nervous waiting on her response, but again it was wrong, so draft three was started, I was thinking in my head, I'm going to be sacked if I don't get this right. The third time I handed it to her, I was actually shaking. I waited for what felt like a lifetime and then suddenly the brochure got thrown back on my desk with the words written on, "10/10 Gold star! Hallelujah!!! " PHEW!!! What a relief that was! I felt so good I could of kissed her!

The fact is that perseverance and keeping my own diplomacy when faced with criticism allowed me to learn, learning helped me improve and in turn this gained knowledge. I listened I adapted and I succeeded.

Lessons learnt here, well, in the words of the song by Chumbawa

"I get knocked down, but I get up again, your never gonna keep me down" I lived to see another day at the estate agents and I had another string to my bow!
